How to replace audi key fob an audi key replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor

FIAT.pngCharles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 via the grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also where the camshaft lies so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain. However, the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It's a bit tricky to test since there are different connector pins, and they all have different functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, it should be reading about 1000 ohms. If you're having issues with this sensor, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a significant drop in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and audi Car Key replacement found that 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the 4th was dry. When I crank the engine with no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline leap out, however the 4th one stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car will start if the G28 is disconnected and runs fine when it is connected but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not certain what to do, but i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. But i am afraid I may have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is the same as the G4 and they both work in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a junkyard or from a parts store. It is simple to test them by putting your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that needs to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions about timing of the fuel injector, for example. To accomplish this, it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these sensors go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

Some of the signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor include an inaccurate gearbox rev counter and gears that shift faster than normal and/or a misfire when you are in gear. If you are experiencing any of these problems, it is likely that your sensor is failing and needs replacing. The good news is they are quite affordable and readily available particularly when you're looking at a Bosch sensor, which is what we have. Alternately, the GM version of this part is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be the reason behind numerous problems in your vehicle. It's an essential component of the transmission of your audi key Fob replacement cost since it sends information to the ECU on how fast or slow the engine is spinning. When this sensor fails, it can cause problems for the transmission, as well as the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49, via an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this signal to regulate the flow of fuel and boost and also to timigrate. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. There should be a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms in these areas. This is a common component across the audi q3 key 80, 100, 200, UrS and Audi Key Blade RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best ones might be availble in wrecking yards.
