How to Replace an Audi Car Key Case G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located at the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However the code will not be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit challenging since there are two connector pins, and they have different functions but the most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. Examine for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, I experienced an abrupt drop in power like the engine is out of gas or injectors are not firing anymore. In the morning, Audi Spare Key Replacement i removed the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the fourth one was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole and replacement audi A3 key (fewpal.com) when I start the engine with no sparks, the three that have gazoline pop right out. The fourth one remains closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do. I feel like i've pretty much ruled everything else out. But i'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is identical to the G4 and they both work in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or from a parts store. It is simple to test them - simply put your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines must know both the position and speed the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you encounter a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could lead to an engine shutdown.

Some of the signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or a misfire when you are in gear. If you have any of these problems, it is likely your sensor is going bad and should be replaced. They are cheap and easy-to-find, especially in the case of a Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, GM's version this part is an excellent choice.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the cause of many issues in your car. It's an essential component of your Audi A1 keys's transmission, because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It sends signals via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to control the amount of fuel and audi Replacement key boost, and also timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. It should show approximately 1000 ohms resistance between those points. This is the same across the audi key fob replacement cost 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU You may also find good ones in wrecking yards.jaguar-logo.png
