World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its base stats are increased in value. This value is the total of all of its upgraded advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to the fact that many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

Item level is a widely used measurement of power and is visible on all tooltips of items. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear as PvP is restricted at a lower level. The average level of the item is listed on the character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can evaluate the levels of the item. It's a measure of the item's damage and its quality. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when looking at a vendor's inventory.

The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the full description of the item, including its level. It can also be found by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories about how the level of an item is determined. One theory states that the level of an item is determined by an equation that determines the value of the stats of an item upgrade really are. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different worth, and also that gems in sockets add to the overall value of the item. This can lead to a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzard's actual Best item upgrade level.

However, this is not the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl because the level of the area the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, for example by adding an amount to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant element in what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses them in a variety of ways to encourage players not to restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The stat modifications of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's level.

Upgrades to the item add by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. A grey or white item, for example, will only be upgraded one time however, items with rare tiers may be upgraded several times at more expensive costs.

Another method of altering the stats on an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can provide the item extra damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving the dead or decreasing the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving an additional name to the item.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window pressing the green button. This will cost a certain amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other rerolling methods.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However each item will include at least one stat in that range unless they are an exclusive item or a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the attaches, or select which stats to boost. Similar to base equipment, it must be done per item and the interface for item comparison wouldn't display all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the odds of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the possibility to obtain better equipment earlier in the game and is therefore more useful in early game runs as opposed to later ones, because most players value greater weapon scaling and defense over the raw damage gain.

Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance, which increases with each level and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of the item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any ability that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items are available in the shops or made using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are expensive and not every upgrade will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item upgrade if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on how much success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%..

The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. All items have an average success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
