How to Replace an audi keys replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located near the edges of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU utilizes this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. However, the code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two pins for the connector and they perform different functions but the best method of testing it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms if the sensor is in full operation. If you're having issues with this sensor, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a significant decrease in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, 3 were drenched with gazoline the fourth one was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when i start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I get zero ohm. I'm assuming the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The audi car key replacement is able to start if the G28 is disconnected and runs fine when it is plugged in but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, i believe that i've ruled out everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is easy to test them: simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to be aware of the position and speed the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you have a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could lead to an engine shut down.

Some of the signs of a failing G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal and/or misfiring when in gear. If you experience any of these issues, it is likely your sensor is deteriorating and requires replacement. They are cheap and easy-to-find particularly if they're a Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, GM's version this part is an option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a variety of issues in your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your audi key shell because it relays information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the engine of the Car Key replacement Audi is turning. If this sensor fails, it can cause problems for the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It sends an electrical signal through gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU uses this signal to control fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should detect the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these points. This part is common across the audi a3 key 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 DU, so you might find good ones in wrecking yards.
