How to Replace an audi key replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located at the edge of transmission just above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 using the grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can activate spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult since there are two pins for the connector and they have different functions but the most effective way to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully operational, it should be reading around 1000 ohms. Check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at a high speed I noticed a significant decrease in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, 3 were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the three that have gazoline pop right out. The fourth one remains closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I get 0ohm. So i assume the problem is in another place.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car can start if the G28 is unplugged and runs fine when it is plugged in but it still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even if it is not plugged in, shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars while the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've eliminated everything else. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is the same as the G4 and they both work in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a junkyard or in a local parts store. It is simple to test them: simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to know both the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine timing of the fuel injector, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you encounter a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could lead to an engine shut down.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox and a gearbox which shifts more quickly than normal, or a misfire in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you notice any of these symptoms. They're inexpensive and easy to locate especially if they're a Bosch model like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this component is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a number of problems within your vehicle. It's an essential component of the transmission in your audi car keys replacement a5 key fob (url), as it transmits information to the ECU on how fast or slow the engine is turning. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car to be affected.

jaguar-logo.pngThe G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU uses this signal to control the flow of fuel and boost and also to timigrate. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. It should show approximately 1000 ohms resistance between these two points. This is a standard part that is found across the replacement audi key cost uk 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best ones might be availble in wrecking yards.
