Porsche-New-2023.pngHow to Replace an audi q7 key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and the position of the camshaft, so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are various connector pins, and each one has different functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms if the sensor is at full operation. Examine for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a significant reduction in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, three were drenched in gazoline, the fourth one was dry. When i crank the engine, there are no sparks, i place a tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th stays closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 i get 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car can start if the G28 is disconnected and is running fine when it is plugged in however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, i believe that i've eliminated everything else. However, i'm afraid that i might have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is the same as the G4 and they both work in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or at a parts store. It is simple to test them - simply put your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that needs to know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions about timing of the fuel injectors, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you are experiencing issues with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could cause an engine shutdown.

The signs of a failed G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal and/or misfiring when you're in gear. It is likely that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. They're cheap and easy to find particularly when they're an Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this component is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the cause of a slew of issues in your car. It's a vital component of the audi key copy's transmission because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is rotating. When this sensor fails, it can affect the performance of the transmission, Audi key fob replacement as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It sends an electrical signal through an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU uses this signal to control fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between those points. This part is common across the replacement audi car key 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 Du So, you may find good ones in wrecking yards.
