How to Replace an audi a1 key G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located near the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a message to the ECU via the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to correlate with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can start spark and injectors in the right way.
If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
Testing is a bit challenging as there are two different connector pins and they serve different purposes but the most effective way to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully operational, it should be reading around 1000 ohms. If you are having problems with this sensor, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a significant drop in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when I start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The fourth one remains closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I got zero ohm. I think the issue is in another location.
I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car is able to start if the G28 is disconnected and runs fine when it is plugged in however it has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is zero.
I'm not certain what to do, as i believe that i've eliminated everything else. However, i'm afraid that I may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine fuel injector timing, etc. In order to do this it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these goes wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner that could cause engine shut down.
The signs of a failed G28 sensor are an inaccurate gearbox rev counter the gears are shifting faster than normal and/or a misfire when you're in gear. If you have any of these issues it is likely that your sensor is failing and needs replacing. The good thing is that they are very affordable and readily available particularly if you're looking at the Bosch sensor, like ours. You can also choose the GM version of this part is also a good option.
5. Tachometer
A damaged engine sensor could cause a variety of issues in your vehicle. It's an essential component of the transmission of your audi a3 spare key, as it transmits information to the ECU about how fast or slow the engine of the car is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to malfunction and other components of the car to be affected.
The G5 engine sensor Audi Q3 Key is located near the edge of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It sends signals via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU uses this signal to control fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. It should show approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between those two pins. This is a typical part across the audi replacement key cost uk smart audi remote key replacement (istartw.lineageinc.com) 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good ones might be availble in wrecking yards.
