How to Replace an Audi keys Replacement Cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located near the edges of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will throw the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync, possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test since there are several connector pins, and each has its own functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms when it is operating at its maximum. If you are having problems with this component, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at full speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was unclean. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when I start the engine with no sparks, the three with gazoline jump out. The 4th one stays closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I'm assuming the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected and it runs perfectly when it is connected but it still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows temperatures of -49c. Also, audi car key replacement i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've all other possibilities out. However, i'm afraid that I may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them by putting your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's end). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines must be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine fuel injector timing, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.

A damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire while in gear. It is possible that the sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you experience any of these symptoms. They are cheap and easy-to-find, especially when they're an Bosch sensor like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a variety of issues within your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission in your audi spare key replacement because it relays information to the ECU on how fast or slow the car's engine is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other car components to be affected.

SEAT-Logo-2019.jpgThe G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits signals via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to control fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. There should be an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a typical component across the replacement audi car key 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good parts could be found in wrecking yards.Kia-Motors-New-2021.png
